I would do this in addition to doing the beep test MWF. The squats aren't so much for your legs as they are for your body to get used to stabilizing movement.
#BEEP TEST ON TREADMILL HOW TO#
If I took 6 months off and two weeks to figure out how to pass a beep test, I would do 135 4x12 everyday the first week and 185 4x12 until the 2nd to the last day of my beep test and just relax to allow my muscles a time to relax. I have no idea of what you squat, but for me, I did 365lbs 3x8 when I was working out regularly. Just try to get your body under a load to control a weight. I would incorporate some squats in there if you haven't done any fitness in the previous 6 months. A tactic I've heard for the beep is to warm up and then start the test 3 stages below your best - this allows you more energy to train the higher levels you're not familiar with. My two cents would be to run the test and see where you are. I did 14min at home but managed 16min on the test after my taper. Saw good improvement and then tapered for 4 days before the test. I mixed hill sprints (:30 sprint/2:30 rest 圆-10 rounds) with running the treadmill protocol at home with a weight vest. Hey /u/fredislol I just recently had to do a weighted incline treadmill to failure as part of a VO2peak occupational test. Lastly, it'll build some confidence hopefully - if OP manages to hit 9 in training that'll be a lot less stress taking a toll on test day. The beep test also has a tempo to it and knowing the timing of the stages lets you avoid wasting energy on test day by running faster than needed in the early stages and having awkward turn/pivot timing. To train your VO2max (which is what the test is assessing), you need to work at max capacity - running the test will do that for a short period. Usually a bad idea, yes, but the beep test is special for a few reasons. The only way you'll fail that test is if you believe you will, if you tell yourself you will. Run till you fucking collapse, if you really want it. Train hard now, but taper off 4-5 days before the test so that you can take it as rested as possible. Two weeks is plenty of time to make a small improvement, and that's probably all you'll need. And take a very light warm up before you have to take the test. the day of the test, get a good breakfast of complex carbs, oats, basically. Don't stuff yourself with food, that won't help. Finally, do a slower, gentle run of 2-4 miles 2-3 days before the test. Do it one more time next monday, or about five days before the test. Do it again on Friday, push yourself - not max effort, but hard and sustainable - over several miles. Look to run a few miles, and break them up with 20-30 second sprints. With two weeks out, do sprints, do a set today. Level 9 on the beep test is only running for 9 minutes.
